How we work with clients in Winnipeg

Winnipeg is the capital of Manitoba, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet. It counted 749,607 residents in the 2021 Census, up 6.3% from 2016, more than half of Manitoba's 1,342,153. For clients in Winnipeg, meetings are held over video.

Office hours

Where planning often starts

For incorporated physicians and dentists, the first questions are usually the salary and dividend mix, the corporate investment portfolio, whether an IPP fits, and how a holding company is structured.

“Average is not the middle of success. Average is the middle of all outcomes, including the bad ones.”

Manitoba rules that shape your plan

Manitoba has three provincial tax brackets, no probate fee, and no provincial tax on small business income. These are the 2026 figures we plan around for Manitoba clients.

Income tax in Manitoba, 2026

Manitoba taxes income at 10.8% up to $47,564, 12.75% to $101,200 and 17.4% above that. With the federal 33% top rate, the highest combined rate is 50.4%, on taxable income above $258,482.

Probate in Manitoba

Manitoba eliminated probate fees on November 6, 2020. An executor may still need a grant of probate from the court, but no fee is charged on the value of the estate. The larger costs at death are usually the tax on registered accounts and capital gains.

Corporations in Manitoba

Manitoba charges no provincial tax on active business income up to the $500,000 small business limit, so the combined rate is the federal 9%. Above the limit, the combined rate is 27% (12% Manitoba and 15% federal).

Questions about a financial advisor in Winnipeg

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often.

Yes, by video. Kaetyn works with clients across Canada, and meetings can be held virtually anywhere in Manitoba. If you would rather meet in person, meetings are held in Calgary.

Check registration first: Kaetyn St. Hilaire is a representative of Designed Securities Ltd., a full-service investment dealer regulated by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF). Then ask how the advisor is paid, and expect every cost explained before you commit. A second opinion is a good test: we will review your current holdings, fees and strategy and give you honest feedback, even if that means telling you to stay where you are.

No. Manitoba eliminated probate fees on November 6, 2020. An executor may still need a grant of probate, but no fee is charged on the value of the estate. Tax on RRSPs, RRIFs and capital gains at death still applies, so that is where the estate plan focuses.

There are no hidden fees: we explain every cost before you commit to anything, including our advisory fee and fund costs. Investment management is fee-based, as a percentage of assets under management, and financial planning and insurance services may have separate fee structures. The first conversation is a free, no-obligation review.

This is one of our specialties. We help physicians optimize their salary-dividend mix, manage corporate investment portfolios, evaluate IPPs, and structure holding companies. Visit our Physicians page for more details.
