Where planning often starts

After 71, the RRIF minimum sets an income floor, so the plan manages which years income is realized and how much is drawn from the TFSA instead.

“Pension splitting only helps if you actually elect it properly when you file. The TFSA strategy only works if you've been funding that account consistently.”

New Brunswick rules that shape your plan

New Brunswick has four provincial tax brackets, a probate fee of 0.5% on estates above $20,000, and a 2.5% small business rate. These are the 2026 figures we plan around for New Brunswick clients.

Income tax in New Brunswick, 2026

New Brunswick taxes income at 9.4% up to $52,333, 14% to $104,666, 16% to $193,861 and 19.5% above that. With the federal 33% top rate, the highest combined rate is 52.5%, on taxable income above $258,482.

Probate in New Brunswick

Under the Probate Court Act, the fee is $25 to $100 on an estate of up to $20,000, and $5 for every $1,000 of the whole estate above $20,000, or 0.5%. On a $1,000,000 estate that is $5,000.

Corporations in New Brunswick

Active business income in a New Brunswick corporation is taxed at 11.5% combined (2.5% provincial and 9% federal) up to the $500,000 small business limit, and 29% (14% and 15%) above it.

There are no hidden fees: we explain every cost before you commit to anything, including our advisory fee and fund costs. The first conversation is a free, no-obligation review.

Once your individual net income passes the OAS recovery threshold, OAS is clawed back at 15 cents on every additional dollar until it is gone. TFSA withdrawals do not count as income, so drawing part of your spending from a TFSA can keep net income below the line.
