Where the work usually begins

For professionals earning $150K to $500K+ who are building wealth quickly, it starts with which account to fund first and a structured plan for the years ahead.

“The habit of waiting to catch up later is the single most expensive financial decision most Canadians make.”

Alberta rules that shape your plan

A plan for an Alberta household is built on Alberta numbers. These are the 2026 figures we work from: a top combined tax rate of 48%, below British Columbia and Ontario, a probate fee capped at $525, and corporate rules that matter for incorporated professionals.

Income tax in Alberta, 2026

Alberta taxes income at 8% up to $61,200, 10% to $154,259, 12% to $185,111, 13% to $246,813, 14% to $370,220 and 15% above that. Federal rates run from 14% to 33% on top. The highest combined rate is 48%, on taxable income above $370,220.

Probate in Alberta

The court fee for a grant of probate or administration is set by the net value of property in Alberta: $35 up to $10,000, $135 up to $25,000, $275 up to $125,000, $400 up to $250,000, and $525 above $250,000. Because the fee stops at $525, the larger costs at death are usually the tax on registered accounts and capital gains, not probate.

Professional corporations in Alberta

Active business income in an Alberta corporation is taxed at 11% combined up to the $500,000 small business limit, and 23% above it. In Alberta, a physician's or dentist's spouse must hold non-voting shares, which shapes how a medical or dental corporation pays dividends to the family.

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often.

Yes. Meetings can be held virtually anywhere in Alberta, including Grande Prairie, and in person in Calgary for anyone who prefers it. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mountain Time, and weekends by appointment. Grande Prairie is on Mountain Time, the same as Calgary.

Credentials, registration and plain answers about fees. Kaetyn holds the CFA, CIM, CIWM, FCSI and CEA designations and is a representative of Designed Securities Ltd., regulated by CIRO and a member of CIPF. Ask whether the advisor plans across your personal and corporate accounts or only manages investments. We do both: tax optimization, retirement projections, insurance analysis, estate planning and corporate structuring.

Yes, with a limit: in Alberta, a physician's or dentist's spouse must hold non-voting shares. The structure is set with your lawyer and accountant, and we plan the salary and dividend mix around it.

We operate on a fee-based model. For investment management, fees are based on a percentage of assets under management, which aligns our interests: we do well when you do well. Financial planning and insurance services may have separate fee structures, which we'll always explain upfront. The first review is free.

Often both. The RRSP deduction is worth the most when your marginal rate is high, and TFSA withdrawals do not count as income later, so they do not trigger the OAS clawback or push you into a higher bracket. The RRSP vs TFSA calculator compares the two for your numbers.
